Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin Comes with New Sharding Proposal: What is EIP-4844?

Ethereum founder explains concept of Proto-danksharding, a novel type of sharded consensus for post-merge network

Sharding, i.e. the existence of interconnected sub-blockchains instead of just one, is among the more eccentric novelties of the upcoming Ethereum (ETH) proof-of-stake network. Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin offers yet another scenario as to what the mechanism might look like.

Introducing Proto-danksharding, a novel way to organize data logistics

Vitalik Buterin has taken to Twitter to share the idea of Proto-danksharding, i.e., a scenario of data verification focused on blob-carrying transactions that cannot be executed by EVM.

Proto-danksharding is intended to replace danksharding, a sharding technique in which a single proponent chooses all transactions and data that go into which location instead of a separate proponent for each shard.

The proposed solution can be an interim variant as it includes implementation of some danksharding elements. At the same time, it leads to increased data usage as it needs a much more greater block size.

The founder of Ethereum proposes to automatically delete blob data every 30 days to prevent the network from having excessive data storage and memory requirements.

Deposit contract surpasses $30 billion as last pre-merge testnet is up and running

Ethereum network inches closer to the Merge, i.e., full-fledged migration toward proof-of-stake consensus. As covered by U.Today previously, Ethereum (ETH) developers launched Kiln, a multi-client testnet.

Kiln will be the last multi-client testnet before Operation Merge. It emulates “real world” specs and is designed to test Ethereum (ETH) opportunities.

Ethereum’s deposit contract recently surpassed the 10 million-Ethers-staked milestone. Currently, its value exceeds $30 billion, which is equal to the aggregated market capitalization of cryptocurrencies from the top 10.
