Keanu Reeves Laughs at NFTs

Right clicks received major approval from none other than Keanu Reeves

Canadian actor Keanu Reeves, who’s mainly known for starring in the “Matrix trilogy,” went viral on Friday after dismissing non-fungible tokens in the funniest way possible in a recent interview with The Verge.

When asked the inevitable question about his stance on NFTs and digital scarcity, the movie legend said these works of art can be easily reproduced before he starts laughing uncontrollably:

They’re easily reproduced.

Reeves’ comments sparked a lot of jokes on Twitter. David Zhou, CTO of Shopify, tweeted that the actor’s laugh was all he wanted for Christmas.

Some also noticed the reaction of Reeves’s fellow star, Carrie-Anne Moss, to tiring and unnecessary questions about crypto and NFTs.

NFT on the Matrix Theme

Even though Reeves criticizes NFTs, Warner Bros. was always tempted to jump into the latest fad.

It recently announced a drop of 100,000 NFTs together with startup Nifty ahead of the much-awaited premiere of The Matrix: Resurrections sequel that is going to take place on Dec. 18 in the U.S.

Last month Quentin Tarantino also released his Pulp Fiction NFT downfall that caused legal problems for the legendary director.

Reeves holds some crypto

Despite not being a fan of NFTs, Reeves confirmed that he does hold some crypto, but he didn’t mention the name of a specific cryptocurrency.

The crypto owned by the 57-year-old actor was bought for him by his friend.

Reeves says that he’s not engaged in actively trading digital assets.

Take a stand against Meta

The “Matrix” star also criticized Facebook’s foray into the “metaverse,” noting that the whole concept was not invented by the company.

As reported by U.Today, the company recently changed its name to Meta to highlight its focus on the new venture.

Still, Reeves, who has spoken favorably about decentralization, wants the tech giant to stay out of it.

The term “metaverse” was coined all the way back in 1992 by Neal Stephenson in his dystopian book called “Snow Crash.”
