LimeWire Considers XRP Integration for Token Sale

The content production centre LimeWire, a once-contentious peer-to-peer file-sharing platform, is thinking about accepting Ripple’s XRP cryptocurrency as payment for its ongoing open auction of the LimeWire Token (LMWR).

LimeWire asked the Ripple community to show their support in a tweet on May 6, promising that XRP will become available on the site the following day if the message achieved 300 retweets.

The platform just included Cardano’s ADA as a payment option for its open token sale, garnering positive feedback from the Cardano community in the process.

With its ease of sharing and downloading items, including music, films, and documents, LimeWire quickly rose to prominence in the early 2000s. However, the site was a prime target for illicit file sharing, such as the unauthorised dissemination of copyrighted materials, due to its simplicity of use and absence of content controls.

One of the most notorious file-sharing platforms on the internet, LimeWire, came to an end in 2010 when the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) sued the platform for copyright infringement.

LimeWire reemerged from the ashes of its contentious past with a fresh focus and business strategy. The website changed its focus from P2P file sharing to serving as a shelter for content producers.

If the XRP integration receives support from the Ripple community, LimeWire’s user base and reach would increase.
