Million transactions per second for Cardano’s Hydra: Accomplishment or myth?
Cardano’s (ADA) PoS network’s second-layer scaler, Hydra, is unable to handle 1 million transactions per second. Matthias Benkort, the tech director for the Cardano Foundation, advises against spreading this myth.
Today, May 13, 2023, Benkort, also known as KtorZ on GitHub and Twitter, replied to a comment made by Marco Meerman, a member of the Cardano (ADA) community and owner of an ADA staking pool.
The Cardano Foundation director referred to this story as “misleading” and advised using only the performance numbers for Hydra provided by Input Output Global, the Cardano Foundation, or the Hydra team themselves.
Benkort was opposed by certain Cardano (ADA) supporters, who declared that Hydra’s development should aim for even a 2 million TPS bandwidth as its ultimate objective.
Much-anticipated Hydra is live on Cardano (ADA) mainnet
The first iteration of the Hydra L2 solution went live on mainnet yesterday, May 12, 2023, as previously reported by U.Today. Sebastian Nagel, the creator of the Hydra protocol, has verified the activation of the first-ever mainnet-compatible Hydra node.
The advantages of Cardano’s Hydra were highlighted in live meetings with IT professionals earlier this year. Cardano (ADA) is anticipated to scale with the help of the solution, giving it a chance to outperform other well-known proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchains in terms of processing power.
