XRP-Friendly Lawyer Deaton Falls Victim to Hackers

The Twitter account of John Deaton, a well-known cryptocurrency attorney renowned for supporting the Ripple-affiliated digital coin XRP, was hacked as a result of a cyberattack. The lawyer’s phone had been hacked as a result of “a relentless cyberattack over several days.”

The suspected hackers announced a new digital coin called “LAW” in an effort to capitalise on Deaton’s standing and power in the cryptocurrency community.

In the false tweet, $LAW was introduced as “the official token derived directly from CryptoLaw.” It went on to say that the token presents a novel method of tokenization and decentralised finance (DeFi), with an emphasis on legal and regulatory frameworks for cryptocurrencies. Followers were urged to claim LAW via a connected webpage as part of the trick.

CryptoLaw, an organisation with whom Deaton has a strong affiliation, quickly refuted the information. The group said that the tweet promoting LAW was fake and that Deaton’s account had been hijacked.

They also advised followers to ignore any emails from Deaton’s account until further notice and not click any links from it. They said that Deaton was acting right away to make things right.

The hacking attack highlights the continuous security difficulties experienced by prominent players in the cryptocurrency industry. This is especially true on social networking sites like Twitter, which are frequently abused by dishonest people trying to con their following.

Regarding Deaton, his fans continue to believe that he will quickly regain control of his account. One of these supporters is lawyer Jeremy Hogan, who asserted that “Karma will get the hackers.” Do not be concerned.
