Ethereum Founder Vitalik Buterin Endorses Community Notes

Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum, has endorsed X’s “Community Notes” feature, emphasising its significance and connection to “crypto values” in a long blog post.

Dramatic occurrences have occurred often over the past two years on the social networking site, particularly following Elon Musk’s $44 billion acquisition last year and his assault on journalists and free expression.

In spite of these modifications, Community Notes became a well-liked feature that aimed to combat disinformation by adding context and facts to tweets.

Community Notes, which was first released as “Birdwatch” in January 2021, has had consistent growth, with a large expansion phase that coincided with Musk’s takeover. The function provides background for tweets that receive a lot of attention, especially those that deal with divisive subjects. The users of the platform contribute and vote on these remarks, rather than a centralised team. Which notes are displayed are determined by an open-source algorithm, which encourages openness by allowing users to compare the algorithm’s output with what is displayed on the site.

The fact that Community Notes embody principles frequently connected to cryptocurrencies is what draws Buterin to them. Although not your conventional “crypto project,” the system adheres to values like decentralisation, transparency, and community governance. Buterin contends that Community Notes’ openness is strongly aligned with crypto-values.

By discouraging centralised manipulation and giving proper credit to platforms that meet ethical norms, he thinks this strategy offers tremendous benefit.
