XRP Ledger Unveils New Milestone for Cross-Chain Bridging Feature

XRP

A significant advance in the XLS-38d cross-chain bridging primitive for XRP Ledger has been disclosed by RippleX developers.

A thorough security assessment has been carried out by Bishop Fox, a leading blockchain security firm, to emphasise user safety and guarantee the reliability of the cross-chain bridging capability.

The audit was largely focused on three areas. The first was detecting weaknesses in systems and services connected to the XRP sidechain bridging architecture that were exposed on internet-facing services.

Second, the witness server, RPC interfaces, and ripple bridging protocol’s overall security were assessed. In order to strengthen the rippled XRP bridging feature’s security posture, any faults or possible vulnerabilities were discovered.

There were a total of eight results in the final security review, of which two were medium priority, five were low, and one was deemed informative. However, none of these received a critical or significant rating.

The engineering team at ripple has acknowledged the pertinent results and is implementing modifications to offer a useful upgrade in the upcoming rippled release.

More on XLS-38D

Being a significant advancement that will offer interoperability to the XRP Ledger ecosystem, XLS-38D plays a key role in XRPL sidechains. This is so that XRPL sidechains, which will allow for a cross-chain bridge protected by witness servers, may be used.

The bridge enables bidirectional XRP (and issued assets) transfers between an XRPL sidechain and the XRPL mainnet.

In order to add compatibility to the XRP Ledger ecosystem, this cross-chain bridging software will also be used to link the XRPL mainnet to the future EVM sidechain.
