IOTA closer to ETH compatibility as Shimmer nears key milestone

EVM

IOTA is getting closer to Ethereum compatibility thanks to Shimmer, the network created to push crucial IOTA improvements. The introduction of the Shimmer EVM may be approaching, according to an X post.

The smart contracts team at Shimmer is diligently working to test and repair problems that are essential for a successful launch, according to an update on the development of its EVM provided by the company.

The Shimmer EVM team reviews the situation to date and notes that ecosystem projects were requested to test their dApps on the Shimmer EVM testnet before the summer.

Although it took longer than expected, the most of the problems have now been resolved, and the majority of projects are satisfied with the present situation.

Different testing (individually and in a crowded environment) were successful. Testing in crowded conditions provided insightful information about app behaviour, which, according to the team, increased confidence in the EVM launch. Nevertheless, preparations are being made for a closed Shimmer EVM launch, including testing.

The company said in a recent post that it was carrying on last-minute adjustments and tests and that it will soon start a closed launch of Shimmer EVM.

This will enable the launching projects to start their deployments and final tests as well as the infrastructure, explorer, and indexing services to be set up.

Once everything is prepared, the public debut should occur as soon as a few weeks.

The IOTA community is still eagerly awaiting the debut of the Shimmer EVM. There have already been over 1.4 million transactions on the Shimmer EVM testnet, indicating demand for the innovation.

There are now 1,415,518 total transactions, 653,417 total blocks, 29,462 wallet addresses, and an average block time of 727 milliseconds on the Shimmer EVM testnet.
