The eagerly anticipated Dencun update for Ethereum is now available on the Sepolia testnet, signalling the beginning of the blockchain’s dramatic rebranding. By January 30, the Dencun update was expected to be available on Sepolia by the Ethereum Foundation. One of the two things left to do to get the update live on the Ethereum mainnet is for the Dencun upgrade to go live on Sepolia. High gas costs and limited scalability have long hampered Ethereum. Because of this, it has continued to face harsh criticism from industry analysts such as renowned trader Peter Brandt, who believes that its high operating costs will ultimately lead to its downfall.
The Dencun update aims to improve Ethereum’s protocol’s cost-effectiveness while also addressing scalability concerns. In particular, proto-danksharding—a compressed data storage technique known as “blobs”—will be introduced with the Dencun update in order to improve speed.
Since the update was released earlier this month on the Goerli testnet, development activities are currently at an advanced level. Launching on the Holesky testnet is the final stage before the mainnet debut, and the upgrade is set for February 7.
