Millions of USD in Chainlink lost to hackers

Cybercriminals frequently utilise phishing assaults as one of their tools to steal cryptocurrency from consumers. A Chainlink whale lost an incredible $4.42 million worth of LINK, or 275,700 LINK tokens, that he had amassed between June 2022 and October 2023, sometime around the end of December.

The poor crypto whale was deceived into authorising a transaction that would cause them to lose all of their cryptocurrency when they unintentionally clicked on a phishing link, according to the @lookonchain tweet. Of the $4.42 million in LINK that they lost, $2.26 million was the genuine value, and the remaining $2.4 million represented his unrealized profit from that cryptocurrency.
