Ethereum (ETH) Smashes Major Network Milestone: Details

Ethereum

The second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization and the pioneer of smart contract technology, Ethereum, has reached an important network milestone. The most recent and sophisticated Ethereum testnet, Holesky, has successfully updated to Deneb.

The good news was tweeted by Ethereum developer Terence.Eth. He said that the first few blocks had arrived when he originally tweeted that Holesky had been successfully upgraded to Deneb.

Terence.eth revealed that Holesky had been selected for Deneb in a subsequent tweet. Notwithstanding the roughly 5% decline in participation, which he ascribed to node operators being offline, he declared it to be another successful update. According to the information given thus far, no bugs have been reported.

Before new features and apps are pushed to the mainnet, developers and consumers may test them on the Holesky testnet, a public network that emulates the Ethereum mainnet.

Launched in September 2023, Holesky is set to take Goerli’s position as a testnet for infrastructure, protocol development, and staking in 2023.

The Holesky testnet upgrade to Deneb, which marks the end of testing and the start of the Dencun upgrade’s mainnet rollout, is a significant turning point for the Ethereum network. Blobs initially appeared on the Goerli testnet, then on January 30, the Sepolia testnet was upgraded to Deneb.

Vice President of Research at Galaxy, Christine Kim, commemorates this turning point in the run-up to the Dencun mainnet launch. Notably, Dencun will move on to the mainnet if no problems are found, with Holesky being the final ETH testnet to be updated.

The Ethereum developers decided to schedule Dencun’s mainnet date for soon after the Holesky update during the most recent ACDE call. The focus is on the ACDE call next week, when developers will probably talk about the scope of the Prague hard fork and the date of the Dencun mainnet.
