IOTA has sent out a serious alert to its user base. The alert is issued as dishonest people want to take advantage of the openings that IOTA and its staging network, Shimmer, are now offering in order to deceive gullible people.
A $1 million liquidity airdrop was just launched by Shimmer, much to the excitement of the IOTA community. Malicious actors, it appears, are trying to take advantage of the airdrop chance to fool unsuspecting users into paying money or disclosing personal information.
IOTA reports in a recent tweet that it has seen some users are getting airdrops that include URLs to fraudulent websites. IOTA advises users to exercise caution while clicking on these links and to never give out their wallet’s mnemonics or private keys to third parties.

It should be noted by users that there is no official web wallet or online wallet maintained by the IOTA Foundation. Therefore, anyone saying otherwise might be a con artist out to steal money.
IOTA’s latest advisory comes after Shimmer’s similar one from February 5th, advising users to be cautious of scams.
Shimmer emphasised that consumers should only follow the official links and sources for the campaign, since there is only one Shimmer EVM airdrop campaign now underway. Shimmer proceeded to publish an official blog entry with guidelines and information on the airdrop effort.
The IOTA community is advised to heed these cautions and stay away from emails or solicitations from fraudsters, as well as to avoid clicking on dubious links. Users should make sure the addresses and sources are correct before accepting any transaction, and they should use a wallet that is secure and works with the ShimmerEVM network.
