Cardano Founder Breaks Silence on Vasil Hard Fork, Gives Reason for Delays

Cardano testnet was hard forked to Vasil functionality on July 3

cardano maker Charles Hoskinson Vasil has broken his silence on the hard fork delay. In a live stream titled “Some Brief Comments on Vasil” from his Colorado home, Hoskinson explains the reason for the delay: “…the problem is that every time something is discovered, you have to fix it. But Then you have to verify the fix and go back through the entire test pipeline.”

He added, “So you get to a situation where you feature complete. But then you have to test, and when you test, you may discover something, and then you have to repair that, and then you have to go back through the entire testing pipeline. So this is what causes release delays.”

As reported by U.Today, IOG Technical Manager Kevin Hammond during a recent Cardano360 event indicated that there could be a delay of a few more weeks without providing a specific release date. They claim that doing so was important for further testing and to guarantee a smooth process.

The much-anticipated Vasil mainnet hard fork had previously been tentatively expected to occur in the final week of July after IOG revealed a change in the timing toward the end of June.

Hoskinson anticipates “no more delays”.

The Cardano testnet was hardwired by IOG developers on July 3 for Vasil’s functionality. Development continued after the testnet hard fork announcement, with the release of initial node v.1.35.0. Due to the discovered bug, the IOG teams started working on nodes v.1.35.1 and v.1.35.2.

The Cardano creator speaks of the new node v.1.35.3 as the likely candidate for the hard fork.

“The good news is that the things that can go wrong have become so small, and we are now in the final stages of testing in that regard,” Hoskinson said. “So until something new is discovered, I don’t expect us to be delayed any longer.”

In other positive news, later this month, the first blockchain-backed, NFT-connected shirts on Cardano from Origin Thread will be making their way to Austria, Canada, Germany, Japan, Norway, South Africa, Switzerland, the U.K. and the U.S.
